NeemAzal®-T/S: Emergency Authorisation in Germany for the Control of the American Grapevinde Leafhopper in Vine Nurserie

NeemAzal®‑T/S has been granted an emergency authorisation by the German Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL). The authorisation is valid from 19 May 2026 to 15 September 2026 and is therefore limited to a maximum period of 120 days.

An emergency authorisation allows a plant protection product to be used temporarily when an urgent plant health issue arises that cannot be adequately controlled by the available standard measures.

In this case, the authorisation is strictly limited to the production of young grapevines in vine nurseries and mother blocks. These are used to produce propagation material rather than grapes for wine production. The objective is to maintain healthy planting material for the establishment of future vineyards.

The emergency authorisation has been issued in response to the Amerikanische Rebzikade (Scaphoideus titanus), the vector of Flavescence dorée, a phytoplasma disease of grapevines. By transmitting phytoplasmas between infected and healthy plants, this insect can contribute to the spread of the disease, making the production of healthy planting material more challenging.

This temporary measure is intended to help limit the spread of the vector and support the production of healthy grapevine propagation material. Applications must be based on monitoring results and the recommendations of the competent regional plant protection services.

The use of NeemAzal®-T/S is restricted to professional users and must comply with the conditions specified in the emergency authorisation.
